In a season without a world-class goalscorer at Bayern Munich, with Robert Lewandowski leaving and Harry Kane yet to come, the 2022/2023 Bundesliga campaign saw joint-winners only count to 16. But the top Bundesliga goalscorers in the 2023/2024 season have been more industrious, with three men over 23 goals. And five with 16 or higher.

The race for the top goalscorer, or how the Germans would so eloquently put it - "kicker goal hunter cannon", had two strange anomalies in the 2023/2024 campaign. Two teams had two players amongst the top seven goalscoring players. Also, the championship-winning team didn't have one representative in the top seven. Despite being so dominant to the point of invincibility.

Solid forward rotation and injuries held Victor Boniface to 14 goals this season, the same as the 20-year-old Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig. Although the Red Bull team is represented amongst those making the cut.

Niclas Fullkgrug has shared the last Bundesliga top goalscorer award, yet in this season - deemed a success, he scored 12 goals, four fewer than last time.

Ermedin Demirovic (Augsburg) - 15 goals

Ermedin Demirovic

In his fourth Bundesliga season, Ermedin Demirovic has equalled the joint total goalscoring tally of his previous three. Demirovic also recorded nine assists this term, all while wearing the captain's armband in his second year with the club, aged 26. Showing great versatility to both score and assist, Demirovic has an overall total of 29 assists and 31 goals for the two German sides he represented.

In the 2023/2024 campaign, scoring a brace against Bayern - albeit in defeat - as well as putting one past Dortmund's Gregor Kobel and RB's Peter Gulasci can be the individual highlights of this very team-oriented striker. Although the goal against Hoffenheim is one of the candidates for that of the season, league-wide.

Andrej Kramaric (Hoffenheim)- 15 goals

Andrej Kramaric

We’ve written about players who perform better for their national team than for clubs, well Andrej Kramaric is one player that performs better for a specific club than anyone. Even though he made our list for the top 10 best Croatian football players now. Kramaric is simply sublime for Hoffenheim and has shown it in this season as well, scoring 15 goals and making six assists in 30 matches.

In his previous eight seasons at Hoffenheim, he only recorded single-digit goals in one of them. But even then he made it up with 10 assists. Kramaric finished off a great season in which he scored against BVB and RB in a perfect way - a hat-trick in a 4:2 demoralization of Bayern Munich, with an assist too!

Maximilian Beier (Hoffenheim) - 16 goals

Certainly the least-known player amongst these top Bundesliga goalscorers of 2023/2024, Maximilian Beier locked in the attention of scouts across Europe this year. Being only 21, the youngest amongst these top Bundesliga sharpshooters, Beier's potential is carefully calculated across Europe.

Although Dortmund, Bayern, and Bayer Leverkusen have all experienced it firsthand, as he scored against them. A brace for BVB. What's most impressive is that Beier did play only 110 minutes of top-division football prior to this year. Yet he managed to get 16 goals and three assists in his 33 games this year, while not being the only focal goalscoring point for the team, next to Kramaric.

Deniz Undav (Stuttgart) - 18 goals

One of the two Stuttgart representatives, the more chatty one, Deniz Undav backed up his bold statements on the pitch individually and as a part of a team that took second place. eventually. In his debut Bundesliga Season, after failing at Brighton the previous year, Undav has the fourth-best goal involvement tally in the league with 10 assists and 18 goals. In his prime as well, Undav should be able to continue with the tally, as he has long been labelled as a player with bags of talent.

This season, RB Leipzig felt it the best, as he scored a hat-trick in a 5:2 game, next to Eintracht who got three across two matches, while Dortmund and Leverkusen got one each. All after starting the season recovering from torn knee ligaments!

Lois Openda (RB Leipzig) - 24 goals

Lois Openda

Replacing the team's (and the league's joint) top goalscorer Christopher Nkunku, Lois Openda justified and exceeded expectations in his first season with the Red Bulls. Scoring 24 goals and making seven assists, for a total of 31 goal involvements, joint second-best with the next man in the rankings.

Openda scored against the eventual champions in both of their games, but also versus the second-placed Stuttgart, the giants Bayern, and both Borussias. Aged 24, he is one of the forwards to look at in the Bundesliga at least.

Serhou Guirassy (Stuttgart) - 28 goals

Serhou Guirassy

Arguably the most impressive output of all these top Bundesliga goalscorers in the 2023/2024 season. Not only because Serhou Guirassy played for a side that wasn’t predicted with such a high finish, but because he scored 28 times in 28 matches for them.

In the previous season of the Bundesliga, Guirassy also played fewer games, only 22, and bagged 11 goals. Prior to it, his best seasonal league tally was 10 in Ligue 1. Similar to Ollie Watkins in England, Guirassy has entered his prime in a big way at the age of 28. Albeit, with a smaller assist record than Villa's man - only three.

In the first five games of the season, Guirassy had a better record than the #1 Bundesliga goalscorer for the season - 10 goals! Over the campaign, Wolfsburg and Mainz conceded a hat-trick at the hands of Guirassy - who is now a target for Paris Saint-Germain. With goals against RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Borussia Monchengladbach, PSG is hoping that Guirassy can translate his work to the biggest stage of the Champions League.

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) - 36 goals

Harry Kane

The weakest of consolations for Harry Kane. He already has three seasonal top-goalscorer awards in England, what he came for to Germany is trophies. Yet, in his first season - three opportunities, but none taken. Kane surpassed his best tally from the Premier League by six goals, in just 32 matches. Alongside eight assists. Some projections had him beat the record for the most Bundesliga goals in a season, set recently by Robert Lewandowski at 41. Yet, not even that consolation point has been reached.

Kane opened his tally as expected, with eight goals in his first six matches. In the first 10 matchdays, he had three hat-tricks, including one against the supposed biggest rivals - Borussia Dortmund. Later on, he added another hat-trick against Mainz, with notable braces against RB Leipzig, Stuttgart, and Eintracht Frankfurt. With this proclivity for high-scoring games, Kane can rue that he didn't get to play in the last two games of the season due to injuries, then he could've been close or on the level of the 41-mark.

Even though he is still considered one of the very best strikers of today, Kane doesn't care for individual exploits anymore. Had he, he would've never left England where he was gunning for the top all-time Premier League goalscorer. Only a CL trophy would make that trade worthwhile.

With three more years on a deal, four in a row top Bundesliga goalscorer award can be only a side quest.
