Scoring a goal in the Premier League is what the fans from Inverness to Southampton dream of. Maybe even more so outside the borders of the UK. The greedier ones dream of a brace, an added-time winner, an overhead strike. The more nuanced ones perhaps of a goal-saving tackle. But only those with the biggest appetites dream of taking the match ball home. But we’re talking about the men who actually achieved it. The players with the most Premier League hat-tricks ever, an exclusive club not even allowing a sniff to the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, and Harry Kewell…

Scoring even one hat trick in the best national league of the world is a feat. But the cut off for the most Premier League hat-tricks list has been made at 6 goals, with several players left just outside the club. Dimitar Berbatov, Andy Cole, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Robin van Persie, Ian Wright, and truly surprisingly Raheem Sterling, have all scored at least three goals in the Premier League five times!

Luis Suarez (Liverpool) - 6 hat-tricks

Luis Suarez

While Luis Suarez left a major impact on the Premier League, he played in only 110 games for Liverpool in the domestic championship. Scoring 69 goals total, of which six came in a package of three or more. Of course, Suarez is notorious for his fondness of Norwich and his appetite for tormenting the Canaries can only be compared to a house cat. Scoring three hat-tricks against the green and yellow side, with one of the legendary games providing a poker of goals.

All the three other hat-tricks were just on the money, with WBA, Wigan, and Cardiff taking the lessons from the future Golden Boot winner. El Pistolero scored a hat-trick every 18 games for LFC in the Premier League before becoming one of the most expensive signings in Barcelona's shopping history.

Wayne Rooney (Everton, Manchester United) - 7 hat-tricks

Wayne Rooney

Considering he is still one of the most expensive 18-year-olds ever, it's not surprising seeing Wayne Rooney on any top 10 list of goalscorers. Especially as Wazza played 491 total Premier League games! The combative Liverpoolian represented his hometown club Everton before his move to United in 2004 and he waited two years before his first hat-trick for The Red Devils. Bolton got the best of Rooney for his last United hat-trick in 2011. In between, Portsmouth, Hull, West Ham, and famously Arsenal in the 8:2 thrashing. While the game against Hull was a poker for Rooney.

He did get to score a hat-trick for his boyhood club, when he returned to Goodison, and again against WHU. For a player who was rarely the primary goalscorer at Utd, a hat-trick every 70 games is more than enough.

Michael Owen (Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United, Stoke City) - 8 hat-tricks

A phenomenon at the turn of the centuries, Owen scored his primary Liverpool hat-trick in a draw against Sheffield Wednesday in 1998 as an 18-year-old and is still the youngest scorer of it! As he was a breakout star, he scored two more hat-tricks in 1998, playing his first full season of football in 1997/1998, with only two outings prior. Newcastle was next on the table, and Nottingham Forrest got served four goals!

Owen bagged three against Villa in 2000, then recorded another hat-trick against his future side NUFC in 2001. The next year he also scored all the goals against Manchester City. Owen's last hat-trick had the +1 value with a Poker against West Brom. After a venture to Spain, Owen scored a hat-trick in his 71 Premier League game saga for Newcastle, against West Ham. With matches for Man U and Stoke, a total of 326 PL games and scoring a hat-trick after every 40 on average.

Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur, Norwich City) - 8 hat-tricks

Harry Kane

Still the best active English player, Harry Kane did move away from his home nation but his records remain. Spurs legend scored a hat-trick in the first full season he had with the club, the 2014/2015 one, against Leicester City. Kane then had four hat-tricks in second part of the 2016/2017 season, scoring against WBA, Stoke, Foxes again with a goal extra, and Hull.

Harry bagged two more hat-tricks in calendar 2017, against Burnley and Southampton, but it has since eluded him. Kane did play only three games for Norwich and it comes to a total of 320 matches in his home country league, 40 matches per hat-trick on average.

Thierry Henry (Arsenal) - 8 hat-tricks

One of the very best players Premier League ever had stopped at eight hat-tricks in 258 matches, an average of 32 games per taking the ball home. The first one came against Leicester City in 2000 when AFC won 6:1. Three years passed before Titi scored his second PL hat-trick, against city rivals West Ham United. Henry bagged his biggest scalp in 2004 when he put three past Liverpool, and later improved on the year with a poker against Leeds.

Henry also scored three against Portsmouth, Norwich, Middlesbrough, and Wigan.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) - 8 hat-tricks

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland leads the Premier League in hat-tricks in the last 8 seasons with eight hat-tricks, but he has been playing in barely over two seasons! Scoring a hat-trick in his third PL game with City against Crystal Palace, and then recording a perfect hat-trick in the following matchday against Nottingham Forrest. The ninth game of the season provided Erling with a notable hat-trick against city rivals United in a 6:3 thrashing. Wolves were the next target while Fulham got their due in the following season.

While that campaign was a little weaker for Haaland's Herculian standards, although it did end with a poker versus Wolves. But in just three games of the 2024/2025 season Erling scored two hat-tricks versus Ipswich and West Ham. For the by far the best games to hat-trick ratio of 8, with 71 games played.

Robbie Fowler (Liverpool, Manchester City, Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers) - 9 hat-tricks

Perhaps one of the slightly forgotten greats of the English national championship, even though he is eighth on the all-time goalscorers list. For most hat-tricks in Premier League history, he is third and took match balls to his house across various seasons. Firstly in 1993 when clashing with Southampton, then in a win against Arsenal, a feat which he repeated a year later too.

Fowler had a poker against Bolton in between these two derbies with Arsenal, and one after versus Middlesbrough. Fowler socred four in a 7:1 thrashing of Southampton in 1999, and a hat-trick against Villa, the year prior. In 2001 he scored his last PL hat-trick for LFC, versus Leicester. His next and final one came playing for Leeds United the same year, defeating Bolton. A total of 379 matches in the Premiership and needing 42 on average for a hat-trick.

Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United) - 11 hat-tricks

Alan Shearer

Even though he is the Premier League's top goalscorer ever, Alan Shearer is still only second on the list of most Premier League hat-tricks ever. His first ever hat-trick only amounted to a draw versus Leeds in 1993, but the following ones were all victories. West Ham twice, Ipswich Town, Coventry City, Nottingham Forrest, Bolton, and Tottenham all took three from the Blackburn Rovers Shearer.

Shearer+s 10th Premier League hat-trick came in the black-and-white shirt of Newcastle, and against Leicester City. Interestingly, Shearer never scored a poker in his PL career until his last hat-trick when he overshot it to five goals in a 8:0 win over Sheffield Wednesday. With 441 matches in the league, his average also amounts to 40 games per hat-trick.

Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) - 12 hat-tricks

While Kun is the fifth most prolific goalscorer in Premier League history, he is the best at burst shots. Not taking a lot of time to prove it with a hat-trick in his third league game for City, versus Wigan in 2011. His next big outing was a poker night with Spurs getting a 4:1 battering at the hands of Kun. The next hat-trick hero moment came in a 6:0 win over QPR in 2015. But the following one was a five-goal bonanza versus Newcastle in the same year!

Arguably the best hat-trick on this list was that of Aguero versus Chelsea in a straight 3:0 win over the Blues in 2016. Not the last time he scored a bunch versus the pride of London, as he repeated it in 2019 when the score was 6:0! In the same month he had a hat-trick versus Arsenal.

Prior, he scored a poker versus Leicester and hat-tricks versus Newcastle and Huddersfield in 2018. Aguero's final hat-trick in the Premier League happened on January 2020, versus Aston Villa in a 6:1 bruising in Birmingham. Of all the top ha-trick heros in the Premier League only Henry and Haaland had fewer games than Kun in the Premier League so far!

Yet, even Kun needed twice as many games as Erling Haaland to score a hat-trick, 23 on average! So the Norweigan wonderboy is truly on the course of running past this record for most Premier League hat-tricks, maybe even by the end of 2024/2025 campaign!
