One season wonder? Belotti becomes the third youngest Italian to score 100 Serie A goals since 1980

Andrea Belotti has been one of the most dividing players in Italian football as some claim that he has been vastly overrated for years. Yet in Torino's win over Sampdoria yesterday the striker scored his team's third goal, his 100th in the league. Hence, Belotti became the third-youngest Italian player to score 100 Serie A goals since the year 1980!

The powerful Torino centre-forward has scored his 100th goal in the league aged 27 years and 314 days. Only Alberto Gilardino and the legendary Roberto Baggio have managed to achieve 100 league goals before that age since 1980.

"It’s an honour for me to join those great champions by reaching 100 goals, I score just to bring points to the team. I try to give my all in every game, that’s what you have to do in this sport," stated Belotti.

Yes, that means that Ciro Immobile, Christian Vieri, Francesco Totti, and even Allesandro Del Pierro are all behind Belotti in this revealing stat.

The man from the Bergamo province played his first Serie A season for Palermo, scoring six goals, after which he transferred to Torino where he scored the rest 94 goals. Nearly 28, his record of 100 goals doesn't seem that impressive but a bit more so when considering Belotti has played 254 league games. Furthermore, the overhead kick aficionado has 26 assists in Serie A as well.

Yet his career hasn't been going towards expectations and even Belotti isn't satisfied with it. While the public has been left disappointed that Andrea never reached the heights of his second season with Toro when he bagged 26 goals. Last season, he only got 13 goals, while this campaign just saw him score his second goal.

"I also feel the need to make up for the last two seasons, which have been below expectations. We want a great campaign for our fans. This is my seventh year at Torino, I am at an age that represents a crossroads in the career of a striker. Over the next few months, some important decisions will be made," said Belotti whose contract runs out in the summer.

Reports claim that the North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in the 39 time capped Italy national team player. But it also seems obvious that Antonio Conte might be interested in the compatriot whoever he gets to lead next.
