With the Olympic Games concluded with Brazil's triumph over Spain, the long 2020/2021 season has been concluded. With the Euros and the sporting even in Tokyo, top players of the world had a difficult year to endure. None more challenging than the Barcelona youngster Pedri, who eventually played the most games in the past campaign: 73 matches!

Pedri went on to play in eight different competitions for Barca and Spain! He was the eventual victor over Bruno Fernandes who played 72 games for Manchester United and Portugal. Although his performances at the Euro are what most consider the main reason for the title defender's weak showing.

After the 26-year-old the third place is reserved for another young player in 22-year-old Mason Mount, who played 69 games for Chelsea and England, winning the Champions League in the process. Georginio Wijnaldum (30) had a heavy season with 68 games for Liverpool and Netherlands as he played with a decimated backline behind him. Another Barca player and 30-year-old tops the most active five in Antoine Griezmann, who played 68 for club and country.

Pedri has played 37 games in La Liga, six in Copa del Rey which his club won, two in Spanish SuperCup, seven in the Champions League, and 21 matches for Spain between U21s, senior team, and the Olympic squad.

As he is now surely the heir to Lionel Messi with the Argentine's departure, many were especially concerned whether he was putting too much strain on himself. During the Olympic Games Pedri had to address the question of Spanish journalists regarding his tiredness.

"It's normal that people think I'm tired. I've been playing a lot of matches but I try to rest day by day, sleep after matches, eat well, and listen to the nutritionists and specialists we have in the national team. They haven't been able to come here because of accreditations, but it's important to listen to their recommendations so that I'm always available for the team," stated Pedri.

Prior to it, he also had a memorable quote that he did borrow but it still illustrates his mentality which is to improve every single day.

"If the pianist stops playing for a day, he notices it, but when he stops playing for a week, it's the others that notice it."
