Morata: What Pedri and Gavi are doing is crazy, I couldn't even train with the senior team at 17

Spain's football has been having a bit of a lull after the years of domination from 2008 to 2012, yet now the national team is full of expectations again. Mostly because the squad has two extraordinary talents in Barcelona's Pedri and Gavi.

The former Las Palmas creative midfielder made his international debut on March 25, 2021 and never left the starting eleven, becoming the youngest player to represent Spain at a European Championship, with 18 years, 6 months and 18 days. Pedri, on the other hand became the youngest Spain debutant ever this October with 17 years and 62 when competing in the semifinals of the Nations League against Italy.

One of the more experienced players in the selection of Luis Enrique, Alvaro Morata, is bewildered by the young prodigies.

"What is happening now is crazy, because when I was 17 years old it was very difficult for me to train with the first team. And the first time I came here, I don't know if I was even to see Iniesta, Cesc... But now you see Pedri or Gavi and they look like they are 32 years old. It's crazy," stated Morata.

Gavi, a La Masia product and one of the players who make the academy's top 11 most valuable products, is so committed at that young age that he impressed Morata.

"I asked Gavi where he lived and he told me that he lived at La Masia, because he just turned 17 - I'm the mother who bore me, I'm more than ten years older than him."

It's not just the technique of these two young players that impresses Morata and everyone, as the Juventus striker explains.

"You have to have the technique, not the maturity. And they are even technically gifted. The Eurocup that Pedri did was spectacular and Gavi, I saw the game live against Italy and I didn't believe it was his first game. He hit and ate everyone".
