Lovren: Before the World Cup final Brozovic ate two kilos of salami, two croissants, and drank Coca Cola before running 15 km

While Cristiano Ronaldo is grabbing headlines due to his disdain for carbonated drinks, there are some who are not bothered by it. Croatia defender Dejan Lovren is bewildered by his national team friend Marcelo Brozovic, who doesn't adhere to nutritional standards followed by most footballers. By a long shot.

Lovren revealed that in the 2018 World Cup, Croatia had a midfielder which was fueled by salami, croissants, and Coca Cola. Loads of it too.

"I don’t know how Brozovic manages to eat as much as he does. Before the World Cup Final, he ate two kilos of salami, two croissants and drank a load of Coca-Cola. Then he ran 15 kilometres with no problems," said Lovren.

Yet his skinny frame remains intact and is even the subject of jokes from his Inter teammates with Nicolo Barella commenting that he forgot his calf muscles in the dressing room on one of the photos. He is also a fairly consistent performer, getting at least 31 league appearances in the last four seasons for Inter.

The 28-year-old Brozovic is a peculiar character, his Instagram bio shows it a bit with it saying "Super]King[dad]BroZ" and there are only a few that could play for a top side doing it. Not only did Brozovic play that final game with his nutritional habits, he is the player who ran the most kilometres in the just finished Serie A season. Something Lovren couldn't do by a long shot, he reckons.

"If I ate as much as him, I would need four days to recover. I asked him how he managed it and he pointed to the sky and replied: ‘Salami, Salami!’"

Unsurprisingly, Brozovic has branched out in his home town with a family restaurant and bar.
