West Ham's season in peril as Fabianski suffers a major injury

Holding the number four spot after seven games, the season was looking more promising than any in the recent history for West Ham United fans. But tough news arrived for the Hammers, as the club's first-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has an injury that will keep him off the pitch for at least three months.

The Polish goalkeeper suffered a torn muscle in his thigh during a 2:2 draw with Bournemouth over the weekend. At first, the club hoped it was only a strain, but further tests showed that the 34-year-old will have to sit out longer. The three-month time mark could even be harsher, and the speculation is the best-case scenario.

Veteran keeper has been fantastic for the Hammers since arriving last summer from Swansea for less than €8,000,000. He played in every Premier League game last season, ahead of the long-time first-choice WHU keeper Adrian, who has since moved on to Liverpool. Fabianski was fantastic for Manuel Pellegrini's side this season too, already collecting three clean-sheets.

What is particularly worrying for West Ham supporters is that the Fabianski's backup Roberto Jimenez got his chance in the recent League Cup match against the League One side Oxford Utd, and the Hammers lost 4:0!

The Spanish keeper is a true nomad who came to London this summer, after defending Malaga's goal on loan 34 times in La Liga last season. The third choice goalie is David Martin, who also signed on a free transfer this summer, from Millwall. Martin is 33-years-old and never played in a Premier League match, but spent five years at Anfield.

Furthermore, West Ham only played two matches against the teams in the big six, losing to Manchester City 5:0 on the first matchday, and winning against United 2:0 recently. Matches against Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Liverpool all await the Hammers' backline and Jimenez.
