Valencia signs the next great Uruguayan striker

Diego Forlan, Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez. Uruguay has a reputation for creating world-class strikers that is perhaps unmatched even by countries that have a population much higher than the first World Cup winner's 3,444,000. Forlan is retired, Cavani and Suarez are both 32. Their successor has been determined, and Valencia snapped him up. Maximiliano Gomez officially arrived from Celta Vigo!

Maxi's transfer will cost Valencia €14,500,000 and two players. One sent on a loan, the other permanently. Young Spanish attacker Santi Mina will return to the club in which he was raised after four years at Valencia during which he played 150 games and scored 42 goals. The 23-year old has signed a five-year contract with the club from the Balaidos stadium.

He will have familiar company in the form of a 22-year-old centre-back Jorge Saenz, who will move to Celta on a one-year loan.

Additionally, Celta may receive another €1,500,000 for Gomez in bonuses, after paying him around €4,000,000 two seasons ago. Seasons during which the powerful striker scored 30 goals in Primera, on 69 matches.

Valencia signed a five-year deal with the 22-year-old who started his career in Defensor Sporting. The club has announced that the release clause in Maxi's contract is €140,000,000. The proclaim of intent for the club's future that is further illustrated by how Valencia is promoting this deal - the beginning of a new era.

Gomez and Celta both received much better financial offers from West Ham, but the temptation of Champions League football prevailed.
"It's really nice to be able to play in the Champions League. I've never done that before, and from a young age, I always dreamt of playing in the Champions League and LaLiga. I'm very grateful to Valencia CF, and very happy," said Gomez.

One of the other reasons that swayed him to Valencia is the games he played at Mestalla with his previous club and the support for the club he saw.
"I came here with Celta, and when we arrived at the stadium there were all the fans waiting for the Valencia players. It was a really beautiful thing. I want to help the team and score many goals. I'm going to give my all as I have done at every club for which I have played," spoken like a true Uruguayan.
