Unthinkable a few months ago is now official: Suarez joins Atletico

It's done! Even though there were some shy reports that claimed Barcelona will block the move of Luis Suarez to direct title rivals Atletico Madrid, both sides have now confirmed the deal.

Barca took to their social media and website to announce the move that will leave a bitter taste in the mouths of its fans.

"FC Barcelona publicly expresses its gratitude to Luis Suárez for his commitment and dedication and wishes him good luck and success in the future."

Suarez will be also given a press conference today where he will have a chance to say goodbye. Although this won't change the way this transfer is deemed as disrespectful to a club legend. The Uruguayan has been at the club for six years and has more goal involvements than games played - 283 matches played, 198 goals scored, and 109 assists.

With that, Suarez also won 13 titles with Barca: four La Liga titles, one Champions League, four Copa del Rey trophies, one FIFA Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, and two Spanish Super Cups.

Despite all that, he was pushed away from the club. Like he was choleric. Atletico will pay €2,000,000 every year they reach the Champions League quarter-finals. While the striker signed a two-year contract that most likely has an option for a one-year extension, leaving the maximum fee at €6,000,000.

He will earn half of his €30,000,000 salary he had at Barca over these two years.

Atleti made space for Suarez by offloading a player they just bought - Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard was on loan last season with an obligation to purchase and he has been shipped of to Juventus. A club Suarez was closest to joining but couldn't because he's a non-EU player and Juve already filled those spots with Weston McKennie and Arthur Melo.

Fans are rejoicing with the possibility of seeing controversial Diego Costa and Suarez play together but that might not even happen. Reports already spoke about the possibility of Costa leaving for Turkey and Fenerbahce. Considering how he has been pestered by injuries and lowered his goalscoring output, it doesn't seem like an impossible outcome.

But to make matters even more exciting, Atleti are once again trying to get the free agent Edinson Cavani. Atleti have been trying to get El Matador and his salary was the issue even last summer. Now, after being without a proper offer for so long, and with the prospect of playing with his national team partner, Cavani might lower his demands.
