The first signing of a new Roma: Pedro returns to the place of his greatest success

Even though Roma already secured the signatures of Jordan Veretout, Carles Perez, and Gianluca Mancini this window, all of them have already been a part of the club. Arriving on loans last summer or winter. But the club with new ownership has now secured its first real signing even though the negotiations with the player started long before the new owners got the keys.

That's why we didn't include him on our list of top free agents of the summer.

That is the undeniable quality of Pedro. The 33-year-old arrives from Chelsea on a free after his five-year stint at Stamford Bridge ended. Regardless of how his Roma era goes, Pedro will always have great memories from Olimpico as that is where he won his first Champions League trophy.

Pedro had multiple options after his contract with the Premier League side ran out, most of them from his home country of Spain but Roma's project appealed to him.

"Because it is a team building up. It is a team that is growing, in a few years it can grow up a lot. For this reason, I came here. I also spoke with Paulo Fonseca, he’s a good coach. He spoke with me, explaining it’s a good moment for me to come here and play with new teammates and chase something special. I repeat that it is difficult, but it is not impossible. There are so many good players here and that’s another reason I came here," said Pedro upon arriving.

Roma also offered great conditions for a veteran winger with €3,000,000 per season for three years! Pedro is still recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in the FA Cup Final defeat to Arsenal, so he should be back in training within a month.

That's not all when it comes to Premier League reinforcements for Roma, or at least they hope. Manchester United's Chris Smalling impressed on his loan and the club is trying to sign him for €17,000,000 while the Red Devils won't budge from their €20,000,000 appraisal of the centre-backs worth.

Reports from Germany state that Roma is also looking into Arsenal's full-back Sead Kolasinac, as he is bound to lose his starting spot to Kieran Tierney. While he can also play at the centre-back position if needed.
