Szczesny explains why he wasn't in the Supercup trophy lifting photos

Andrea Pirlo was overjoyed with winning his first trophy as a manager and the consensus is that the Italian has mostly Wojciech Szczesny to thank for it. As the Juventus goalkeeper had a couple of great saves on Hirving Lozano which enable the 2:0 win to transpire. All the media agreed that the Polish keeper was the best player of the winning team despite the two-goal lead.

But the odd thing is, that Szczesny isn't in any of the photos of the cup celebrations and he revealed why.

"I’ll tell you the truth: after the game they immediately took me to another room to do the doping test, so I didn’t have the time and the opportunity to celebrate with the boys. It’s a shame because they had fun, but the sensations after the match were very good," explained the Pole.

Reports stated that Giorgio Chiellini thanked the younger colleague on his performances but Szczesny credited the whole defensive unit.

"Maybe he did, but if we didn’t concede a goal, it’s also thanks to his great performance. I also thanked him for his performance," said the Polish keeper.

Szczesny looked at the Supercup win as an important symbol of Juve's intent and drive to win silverware all the time. Most importantly, to close the gap Milan and Inter have in the Serie A.

"We showed against Napoli that this team are hungry to win trophies. This year we can win the title for the 10th consecutive year and this shows the hunger we have and we don’t want to stop here," said the former Arsenal man.

Szczesny joined Juventus in 2017 for €14,000,000 and has played 118 games for the Old Lady, alternating with Gigi Buffon. The 30-year-old managed to get 49 clean sheets in that time.
