Shaw comments on loss to Watford: The wins against Spurs and City seem pointless now

Just when it seemed that Manchester United is on the right track to old glory days with wins over Tottenham and Manchester City, alongside a 4:0 victory over AZ Alkmaar, they disappoint their fans again. If a draw against was to be understood, the 2:0 defeat to bottom-placed Watford certainly wasn't. Luke Shaw commented on the importance of the defeat and put it in perspective.

The left-back believes that the loss in a way renders the two major wins invalid.

"We need to be better and we know we need to be better. The wins against Spurs and City were great but now they seem pointless with the last two results we’ve had, because we need to be beating the teams below us as well. We haven’t done that. We will work on the training pitch and hopefully have a good Boxing Day," said Shaw.

United's veteran midfielder Nemanja Matic recently spoke about the need for the young Red Devils players to concentrate against "smaller" teams too. And his views showed to be prophetic.

Even the man that has been the often only column of stability at Old Trafford, David De Gea, is having more and more mistakes. Against Watford, he had an absolute inexplicable howler for the first goal Watford scored, but Shaw is backing the Spaniard to bounce back.

"Of course it was a freak goal. David has saved us so many times in so many different matches over the years he has been here. There is no way you can point any blame at him at all. He is a world-class goalkeeper and I am sure he will pick himself up," said Shaw for Manchester United's main website.

Shaw arrived from Southampton in 2014 and played in 116 games for United across six seasons due to frequent long injuries. This season, the left-back has played in eight Premier League games, starting six of them, spending 496 minutes on the pitch.
