Sevilla stops Barcelona and gives title control to Real Madrid

In the 30th round of La Liga Sevilla and Barcelona played a goalless game at Sanchez Pizjuan.

With this result, Barcelona gave chance their rivals Real Madrid to overtake them on the top if they win against Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Barcelona was all over Sevilla from the opening, but hosts were the team to create the first chance in the 11th minute when Kounde sent the ball near the post.

The best first half-time' chance for Barca came in 25th minute with Suarez shot but goalkeeper Vaclik denied it and Martin Braithwaite couldn't score in the rest of the action.

Hosts were sat deep, often with five at the back, and it proved an effective formula as Barcelona couldn't break the wall.

Later, Sevilla's Lucas Ocampos hit the crossbar before the break but nets remain untouched.

Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann came on as a substitute 15 minutes before the end in an attempt to find a winner but did not make an impact.

Messi's free-kick shot was the closest to make Barca winners of this outcome, and Luis Suarez's first-time strike almost sneaked in minutes before full-time.

Sergio Reguilon, who is on loan from Real Madrid, had a nice chance to score for hosts in injury time when the ball fell kindly for him in an unmarked position in the box but he hit it straight at Barca's goalkeeper.

Sevilla continues the battle for a Champions League places while Barca remains on top until Real Madrid finishes their game in San Sebastian.

Blaugrana next plays Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday, while Messi remains one of 700 goals in a career.
