Real Madrid has only 11 fit senior outfield players for the Champions League match

It can be rightfully said that Real Madrid wasn't outside of an injury crisis since the start of the 2019/2020 season. But now the fitness problems in the royal club have reached unprecedented heights as the team will have only 11 fit outfield senior players ready for the Champions League first knockout round game against Atalanta.

Star forward Karim Benzema has not recovered from his fitness problems and joins the massive group in the infirmary: Sergio Ramos, Eden Hazard, Marcelo, Dani Carvajal, Fede Valverde, Rodrygo Goes, Alvaro Odriozola, and Eder Militao.

Real's approach to recovery, training, and medicine has been under a loop since the start of the previous campaign as a new fitness coach Gregory Dupont arrived last summer. Now, they have accumulated 41 injuries this campaign and have 45 per cent of their senior outfield players unavailable for the trip to Bergamo.

Zinedine Zidane will have a handful of senior players to count on, as the troops for the B team, Real Madrid Castilla, have been called up.

The goalkeepers Thibault Courtois, Andriy Lunin, and Diego Altube. The defenders Raphael Varane, Nacho, Ferland Mendy, Victor Chust, and Miguel Guttierez, with the latter not having a single minute of playing time for the senior club. While Chust played in two games, 124 minutes.

The things are better in midfield but an injury in-match could change that as well. Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Luka Modric, Isco, and Marco Asensio are all ready. Real Madrid Castilla players Sergio Arribas and Antonio Blanco are also called up. The latter doesn't have a minute of playing time even in La Liga.

The attack is consisted of Vinicius Junior, Mariano, Lucas Vazquez, and Hugo Duro, who played 24 minutes for Real in his life.
