Protege vs idol ends in 2:2 with plaudits and history earned by both!

In the seven-goal thriller between Fiorentina and Milan, two players scored braces: Dusan Vlahovic of Viola, and his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The side from Florence ended up winning 4:3, yet the game will be remembered by the two players from the Balkans (in origin at least for Ibra) and their historic braces.

Starting with the veteran, deservedly so, as he became the oldest player to score two or more goals in Serie A, aged 40 and 48 days. Simultaneously, he became the first 40-year-old player to score a brace or more in the European top five leagues in the 2000s!

It's 19 years between the two so it's not surprising that Vlahovic idolized the Swedish international. Former Partizan Belgrade teammate of the Serb, Valeri Bojinov, revealed that as a teenager Vlahovic would come to the training ground and yell that he is Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Belgrade and that he will play for the top clubs. After one of their previous duels, Vlahovic got Ibra to give and sign him his shirt

On Saturday, he also grabbed a piece of history for himself. With 27 goals in 2021, he equalled Kurt Hamrin's record from 1960 as the Fiorentina player with most Serie A goals in a calendar year.

After the unfinished matchday, he is the joint-top scorer of Serie A with Ciro Immobile who also scored 10 goals and already played his match for the weekend. The Serb who recently qualified for the World Cup got to double-digit league goals in only 13 games.

Furthermore, Vlahovic overtook Erling Haaland from the calendar year top goalscorer race and is now second with 27 goals, behind unreachable Robert Lewandowski at 38. Karim Benzema is yet to play his game this weekend and he is at 25 goals in 2021. Together with international games, Vlahovic has 34 goals in 49 appearances during 2021.

As far as the 'vic' duel, Vlahovic and Ibra both had involvements in the scoreline besides their goals. Vlahovic assisted Ricardo Saponara for his edge of the box goal, while Ibra was agonizingly close to a hat-trick, yet his header ended up on the post and made Lorenzo Venuti score an own goal for the final 4:3.
