Premier League Matchday 18 Betting Tips

After the action-packed midweek fixtures, the Premier League is back for another thrilling weekend of matches. This will be a relief for fans, after a week that saw Manchester United’s Tuesday game against Brentford at Old Trafford postponed due to Covid-19. The Reds were scheduled to take on Brighton on Saturday, but the match may not go ahead after the midweek disruption.

Rest assured though - there’s still plenty to get stuck into, with all three title contenders playing on Sunday. Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool are all playing away from home, so we could see some significant shifts in the table. Regardless of which team you’re backing, make sure to check out our Premier League betting tips ahead of the weekend to get in on the action.

Leeds United v Arsenal Betting Tips

Bielsa’s Leeds United are taking on Arteta’s Arsenal this Saturday at Elland Road - a match that could prove explosive. The late kick-off sees two teams that are in top goalscoring form go head to head, but with both experiencing weaknesses at the back, we could see some surprises on the pitch.

While the Gunners have landed 21 goals across their opening 16 Premier League games, they conceded 22 for a negative goal difference almost midway through the season. Leeds aren’t much further ahead; they also have a negative goal difference, despite scoring around one goal per game.

The Whites conceded another three goals to Chelsea last weekend, giving away two penalties before losing at Stamford Bridge. Regardless, Leeds could see a positive performance following significant improvements in form after a shoddy start to the season.

The Gunners are a team that blows hot and cold, with all the heat this week falling on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The striker saw his captaincy revoked after breaching the terms around his trip to France, so it remains to be seen whether he’ll be playing this weekend.

In spite of Mikel Arteta attempting to push Arsenal forwards, the team have very few leaders to guide them. This sees our Premier League betting tips backing underdogs Leeds to take home three points this weekend at 11/5.

Bielsa’s side are 9/2 to win with both teams scoring in these Leeds vs Arsenal tips. A home victory with over 4.5 goals also proves interesting at 12/1, and while the Whites lost 3-2 last weekend, they’re 30/1 to win with the same score this time out.

Everton v Leicester City Betting Tips

Everton are only a few wins away from being a top contender for the European places, but the Toffees performance has slipped as of late. Rafa Benitez seems unable to motivate his players enough, which doesn’t bode well for their upcoming Leicester City challenge at Goodison Park.

Brendan Rodgets is a manager who knows what he wants from his players, which sees the Foxes searching for consistency. But that isn’t the case with the home team, meaning the Goodison could be facing another tough afternoon.

Newcastle were beaten by Leicester last week 4-0, after the team scored four times in consecutive home games after netting 16 in their last six overall. Meanwhile, Everton conceded four to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at the start of December - although they did succeed over Arsenal on their next outing.

The atmosphere has been tense at Goodison Park recently, after Benitez was booed by Everton’s away fans for subbing Richarlison in the 3-1 game against Crystal Palace last weekend. Although the manager was trying to protect the Brazilian from injury, it was evident the club was in turmoil.

With that in mind, the away win is well worth a look this weekend at 9/5, although Everton will still attract plenty of attention at the same price. The away team are far from unbeatable, with a draw and over 3.5 goals at 10/1 proving tempting in these matchday betting tips.

Wolves v Chelsea Betting Tips

Chelsea are the first of the title contenders to take to the pitch on Sunday, as Thomas Tuchel brings his Blues to the Midlands to face Wolverhampton Wanderers. The hosts have put in plenty of hard graft this season, so it’s hard to imagine Chelsea slipping up here.

The European champions may be the least-backed of the three teams sitting at the top of the Premier League table, but Chelsea have a talented squad that could see them prove much more popular than their hosts this weekend.

Despite Bruno Lage’s side conceding at an average of less than one goal per game, they still need much more in the way of attack to compete. The Wolves need their first-choice XI to start clicking before they can think about invigorating their players. Given that the Wanderers only scored 12 goals in the first 16 goals in the first 16 games of 2021-22, that needs to improve if they’re to prove enough of a challenge for a return to Europe.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have the second-best attack in the league, averaging more than two goals a game - but the issues are elsewhere for the Blues. Tuchel’s side let in two when facing Leeds last weekend, which puts them at seven goals conceded in four games. This is after only having shipped four in their opening 12 Premier League matches.

The Stamford Bridge side also let in three goals away to Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League, meaning this game can act as a much-needed opportunity for a clean sheet - which they’re priced at evens to get.

The away team are 14/25 favourites in our Premier League predictions, while a Blues win to nil is priced at 29/20. Despite Raul Jimenez’s red card, Wolves went down 1-0 to Manchester City last weekend, placing them at 11/2 to lose by the same scoreline here.

Newcastle United v Manchester City Betting Tips

Kicking off just 15 minutes after Chelsea, Man City will be pitting their high-handed form against a struggling Newcastle side. Although they’re on home soil at St James’ Park, the Magpies could be set for a challenging match this Sunday.

Eddie Howe may believe his team are playing better than the scoreboard shows, but one win from their opening 16 Premier League fixtures is relegation form. Newcastle are fairly lucky that so many other sides are also struggling, so they aren’t too far from safety in comparison.

Even so, there’s not much of a chance of Newcastle getting out of the danger zone this weekend. Manchester City have been in stunning form of late, with last weekend’s win over Wolves putting them at six consecutive wins in the Premier League.

The Blues have championed their last four games against Newcastle, racking up 13 goals in the process. That includes a 5-0 success at the Etihad in July last year, as well as an action-packed 4-3 victory at St James’ at the end of last season.

Considering the disparity in form of these two teams this term, it’s hard to see this challenge being anything close to that. Although they aren’t netting as many goals in this campaign, the Citizens are barely conceding any and are 5/4 to beat Newcastle this weekend.

The visitors are 1/4 in the outright market, while fans can back an easy 3-0 victory for Pep Guardiola’s side at 15/2 in these Newcastle v Man City betting tips.

Tottenham v Liverpool Betting Tips

We could see some pre-Christmas fireworks with Tottenham going up against Liverpool in north London this weekend. The Reds have been dominating over Spurs in recent years, but this is the first time Jurgen Klopp will take on Antonio Conte, with the Italian in the Tottenham dugout.

Conte has made a good first impression at Spurs after immediately improving the team’s fortunes after Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure. Tottenham only conceded one goal in their first four fixtures under their new manager - although three of these were on home ground.

Liverpool are riding high on a seven-match winning streak against Spurs, including the all-important 2019 Champions League final. The Reds have scored 14 goals at an average of exactly two per game during that period, while conceding five. Our Premier League betting tips put the visitors 15/2 to win this game 2-1.

But if you’re more interested in the outright prices, you can back the away team at 7/10. Spurs are 19/5, while the draw is priced at 16/5. Liverpool to win and under 3.5 goals has paid out in six of the last seven showdowns between these two teams - with the same outcome this weekend at 17/10.

Premier League Predictions

There are plenty of other fixtures to look forward to this weekend, including in-form Brentford’s challenge against struggling Southampton. The Bees have been incredible so far during the Premier League, and are beginning to look like serious contenders for Europe as we get closer to the season’s halfway point.

Meanwhile, the Saints were beaten by Arsenal last weekend, which saw their consecutive losses span five games. As the 5/2 underdogs, there could be an influx of backing for Brentford to cause an upset on Saturday afternoon.

West Ham are a team who’ve beaten expectations so far, seeing them pose a serious threat in the battle for fourth place. David Moyes is doing a stellar job with the club, but needs to give Michail Antonio more goalscoring support if the Hammers are to genuinely challenge for the Champions League.

The Irons should easily be able to maintain their momentum this weekend, as they take on basement boys Norwich City in London. The Canaries have raised their game to prove strong contenders against Man United last weekend, but still lost after failing to score for the 10th time in 16 matches. Expect West Ham to sail to victory at 1/2.

With Norwich likely to lose, there are two other games at the bottom of the Premier League table, taking place at 3pm on Saturday. Watford have a major match at home against Crystal Palace, who are starting to impress under Patrick Vieira.

The Eagles bounced back from a rough spell of three successive defeats after beating Everton 3-1 last weekend, and so could prove excellent value at 29/20 to beat Watford at Vicarage Road. The Hornets’ late 2-1 loss to Brentford last weekend took them to four defeats on the trot.

Meanwhile,, Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa hosts Sean Dyche’s Burnley at Villa Park. The Clarets are scoring more goals than last season but are failing to keep as many clean sheets, which has left them sitting near the bottom of the table as we inch closer to Christmas.

Burnley always seem to come good eventually, but they really mustn’t leave it too late. The Clarets will be in for a challenging afternoon against the refreshed Villans, who are the 4/5 favourites after pushing Liverpool all the way last weekend.

Finally to Old Trafford and the unconfirmed fixture between Manchester United and Brighton. If it goes ahead, it’s a chance for Ralf Rangnick to make it three wins from three in the Premier League as manager. Rangnick has already strengthened his defence significantly, although there’s plenty of work still to be done at the other end.

United have only taken Rangnick’s first two games 1-0, while Brighton’s games have also been very close this time around. Only Man City have beaten the Seagulls by more than two goals, with Graham Potter’s side drawing half of their opening 16 matches. Don’t expect them to make major waves this match though, as the smart choice is backing a United win at 8/13. Another 1-0 victory for the Reds is 13/2.
