Only one derby in the Europa League top 16 draw

28.2.2020.

With the duel of Red Bull Salzburg and Eintracht Frankfurt being postponed for later this Friday, on the account of bad weather, Europa League's round of 32 isn't complete. But the draw for top 16 is.

Unfortunately, the draw perfectly illustrated why the Europa League is clearly the second continental competition. Out of the eight match-ups, only one can be considered a derby. One far from the Champions League level.

Roma and Sevilla will battle it out as their CL spots in their respective leagues are far from secured. And it is by far the best duel name-wise.

Inter is a certain Champions League contender next year but their hunger for triumph in the competition comes from a desire to announce to Europe that they are back. With a trophy. Their next opponent is a much harder challenge then it seems as Getafe is flying high in La Liga.

Olympiacos miraculously expelled Arsenal from the competition and now it's up to Wolves to defend the honour of the Premier League.

Some big clubs were eliminated in the first knockout round like Ajax, Arsenal, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, and Celtic. Yet the draw has been easy for some. With all due respect to LASK but if Manchester United doesn't progress to the quarter-finals it will be another massive Red Devils failure.

The first legs are scheduled for 12th of March, with the second legs on the 19th.

Here are all the pairs:

?stanbul Basaksehir (TUR) vs Copenhagen (DEN)

Olympiacos (GRE) vs Wolves (ENG)

Rangers (SCO) vs Leverkusen (GER)

Wolfsburg (GER) vs Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR)

Inter Milan (ITA) vs Getafe (ESP)

Sevilla (ESP) vs Roma (ITA)

Eintracht Frankfurt (GER) / Salzburg (AUT) vs Basel (SUI)

LASK (AUT) vs Manchester United (ENG)
