No scouting needed: Nagelsmann gets his inside man from RB Leipzig to Bayern

The heavily and rightfully disputed sporting director of Bayern Munich, Hasan Salihamidzic, has finally remembered he has a job. Similarly to last year, the Bavarians are active now in the dying moments of the transfer window after securing the move for Dayot Upamecano even before the transfer window opened.

Now, Salihamidzic had little scouting to do as Julian Nagelsmann wanted and got the man he had a great collaboration with. Marcel Sabitzer arrives for €16,000,000 even though he has 145 Bundesliga games behind him, a total of 229 matches for RB Leipzig.

He was instructed by Bayern's new manager Nagelsman in 83 of those games, playing more for the young tactician than any other head coach. Getting 25 goals and 18 assists, mostly from the central-midfield position. Overall, for the Red Bulls of Leipzig, the Austrian has 52 goals and 42 assists in 229 matches. His record in his home country for Salzburg was even better, 27 goals and 21 assists in 51 matches.

While the club CEO Oliver Kahn stated Sabitzer has everything a Bayern player needs, the sporting director stressed his leadership trait.

"We’re very happy to have brought Marcel Sabitzer to FC Bayern. Marcel is a very good footballer, he has a great mentality, he’s very ambitious and he carried responsibility on and off the pitch as captain of RB. Our coach knows him very well and what a leader he is. We’re looking forward to having him," said Hasan.

The player himself stated the club shirt was an awaited present every year at Christmas time.

"I’m delighted to have the opportunity to play for FC Bayern. As a child my Bayern jersey was my pride and joy – I got a new one at Christmas every year. I’ll give everything for this club, I want to win as many matches as possible and of course, collect lots of titles," said the Austrian who played 54 times for his country.

For years Sabitzer was the subject of rumours regarding top Premier League clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea. Yet Bayern got their man as their midfield is weakened by the frequent and heavy injuries of Corentin Tolisso.

So far, Bayern brought in Dayot Upamecano from Leipzig as well, for €42,500,000 even before Nagelsmann was announced as the new manager. The club also brought in 23-year-old left-back Omar Richards for free from Reading, alongside reserve goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, also on free. Reports state that Bayern is now looking at a 16-year-old Croatian attacking midfielder Lovro Zvonarek from Slaven Belup. Of course, it was the clashes with Salihamidzic that made Hansi Flick depart the job he was excelling.

RB Leipzig is set to bring Barcelona rebel Ilaix Moriba as the long-term replacement for Sabitzer, paying €15,000,000 to the Catalans.
