Nainggolan: Conte was crazy about me!

Radja Nainggolan is arguably one of the best box to box midfielders in the game and the Belgian is playing for a mid-table Serie A team Cagliari. Due to his behaviour being deemed as unprofessional by the Inter board, the 31-year-old was crossed out from the squad and loaned out despite the new coach Antonio Conte valuing him quite a lot.

Even when Conte was at the head of Chelsea, it was known that the Italian values the popular Ninja and wanted to sign him from Roma. But he couldn't, and he couldn't work with Radja at Guiseppe Meazza either due to board restrictions.

"During preseason, he took me aside to tell me he was crazy about me and also wanted me at Chelsea but that it was a decision made by the club and shared by him. He told me directly and right from the first day, and I appreciate people who tell you things to your face," said Nainggolan.

Radja has scored an early goal of the season contender in Serie A against SPAL, and as he is still the fan-favourite of the Nerrazurri, there are still those who hope he can come back to the squad in the summer.

As for the player himself, it's obvious he values Conte and would like to play under him.

"I would’ve liked to be coached by him. In one month I was able to appreciate his determination and ideas. He was very clear and straightforward, saying openly when something wasn’t right," said the veteran midfielder.

It's not a secret that Radja likes to live a hedonistic life, partying, drinking, and smoking, so it's not certain that the Inter board would allow him back even if he serves his "sentence" in Cagliari. The club was his destination because Radja's wife is from there and currently battling cancer, so there is a possibility that the issue makes Ninja change his ways a bit.
