Matchday 31 Premier League and Champions League Quarter Final Betting Tips

31.3.2022.   17:58

After international football and the World Cup qualifiers took centre stage last week, it’s the return of the Premier League and the quarter-finals of the Champions League that jostle for attention over the coming week. Read on to discover the best betting tips for both competitions…

Liverpool v Watford Betting Tips

Liverpool may well think they’ll have an easier ride at home against relegation-threatened Watford than they did in their last game away to a spirited Nottingham Forest. A win at Anfield in the early kick-off on Saturday would also send the club to the top of the Premier League for the first time since September – for a few hours, at least.

Roy Hodgson will be disappointed that he wasn’t able to build any momentum after the win against Southampton last time out, thanks to a 20-day break caused by the international fixtures. That was only the second win in 17 games for the Hornets, and Watford have a real fight on their hands now. It shouldn’t get any easier this weekend and a Liverpool win to nil at 3/4 looks like the best value bet here.

Burnley v Manchester City Betting Tips

Whatever the result at Anfield, Manchester City will return to the top of the league with a victory at Turf Moor on Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s side brushed away Southampton in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and will expect to do much the same with Burnley.

The Turf Moor club have had an even longer break than Watford but will still feel angry about allowing Brentford to score two in the last five minutes to snatch the victory last time out. Things are looking bleak for Sean Dyche’s men now and even odds of 14/1 for the home win don’t seem attractive enough. A City win to nil at 5/6 looks to be a better bet.

Chelsea v Brentford Betting Tips

There’s a rare west London derby on Saturday as Brentford take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Bees look as if they may well retain their top-flight status – especially after that 2-0 win against Burnley – and have consistently tested supposedly better sides all season.

Chelsea could be in consolidation mode this weekend, with the Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid coming up. But they’ve only lost once since the turn of the year and look good for the win here. A home win and both teams to score at 5/2 could be worth a go.

Premier League Betting Tips

Brighton host a struggling Norwich on Saturday and will be keen to pull further away from the remotest hint of a relegation scrap. And that should be achievable, with the Seagulls priced at 4/9 to beat the Canaries.

Leeds have managed back-to-back wins for the first time since the start of the year and show signs of improving under Jesse Marsch. They face a Southampton side out of the cup and coasting in the mid-table area of the league. It looks like another home win for the Yorkshire club at 7/5.

Just one place but 10 points separate West Midlands sides Wolves and Aston Villa – and it’s the Black Country club who need the victory to help with their slim chances of European qualification. Villa have stalled a little in recent weeks but might be able to manage a draw here, priced at 21/10.

Although Manchester United are still in the hunt for a Champions League spot, a sense of chaos always seems to surround the Old Trafford club at the moment. Leicester have won three out of their last four in the league but look a shadow of the team of recent seasons – and might not be able to stop a home win here. United are 1/2 to take all three points.

West Ham take on Everton in the early game on Sunday in what is a huge fixture for both ends of the table. Everton have looked awful recently and are in real danger. It is difficult to look past anything but a home win here – priced at 4/5 – to help the Hammers’ European aspirations.

Spurs beat West Ham last time out and look like the side more likely to break into the top four this season. They face a Newcastle team on Sunday that look like they have done enough to escape relegation and give their new owners a reason to splash out again in the summer. A Tottenham win at 8/15 looks like the way to go here though.

Crystal Palace face Arsenal on Monday to wrap up matchday 31 and Patrick Vieira will be keen to test his former club, as the Eagles continue to impress this season. Arsenal have also improved dramatically as the campaign has progressed but this could end in a home win, available at around 29/10.

Champions League Quarter-Final Betting Tips

After scoring three goals in 17 minutes to dump PSG out of the competition, Karim Benzema and Real Madrid will fear no one in the last eight. But they do face a daunting trip away to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on Tuesday. The London side don’t seem to be affected by sanctions on their owner when it comes to action on the pitch and should put up a good fight. The narrow home win at 21/20 looks the best value option here.

Manchester City cruised through their round-of-16 second-leg game against Benfica last time out, after winning 5-0 in the first match. It will be a tougher test on Tuesday as they welcome Atlético Madrid to the Etihad. Diego Simeone’s men have already knocked out the red half of the city in the previous round but might find this a little more difficult. City should win at home to set up the second leg nicely. That outcome is priced at 4/11.

Benfica absorbed the Ajax pressure in Amsterdam and then sneaked the solitary goal that saw them go through to the last eight. The reward is a home first leg against a rampant Liverpool and it’ll take everything the Lisbon side can give for them to still have a chance when the second leg comes around. Jürgen Klopp’s side just look too strong here and the away win is offered at around 4/11.

There’s just one game taking place on Wednesday, with Villarreal – conquerors of Juventus – welcoming Bayern Munich to Spain. The Bundesliga club thrashed RB Salzburg 7-1 to progress to this stage but Unai Emery’s team will fear no one after dispatching Atalanta in the group stage as well. Bayern should ultimately go through but this could end in a surprise draw – priced at 16/5. Back Bayern or take a shot at a surprise draw at Bet365 and get ?50 in free bets as a new player.
