Leipzig demolishes Mainz once again
25.5.2020.
RB Leipzig thrashed Mainz for the second time in the season with Tino Werner ending his eight-game goalless run, scoring a hat-trick in away 5-0 victory.
Mainz conceded 13 goals in two games versus RB Leipzig this season. After 8-0 in the reverse fixture, relegation candidates couldn't avoid another heavy defeat of Julien Nagelsmann's squad.
Well, maybe they could, but Leipzig had an amazing day yesterday. They looked capable of scoring whenever they came near the Mainz's box.
Pacey striker Werner scored three and made three assists when Leipzig triumphed in the 8-0 trashing back in November.
It took him now only 11 minutes in the game to find the target, with a calm near-post finish following the Konrad Laimer's assist.
Dane Yussuf Poulsen and Austrian winger Marcel Sabitzer added two more in the first 45 minutes against a poor Mainz side. It was a three-nill result at half time.
Werner, who is on the radar of greatest European teams, made it 4-0 with another close-range shot, while his third goal in 75' was a nicely taken lob.

Leipzig returns in Champions League places with a yesterday's three points, in a tight competition with Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen.
While Nagelsmann and his players showed a real determination to overcame poor result in the previous matchday, and they did it, Schalke disappointed their fans once again.
Eight matches run without a win is extended to nine after a 0-3 loss against Augsburg. The first match after the season was resumed, Schalke lost in Dortmund, with a disastrous performance, but the even worse display was seen against middle table Augsburg.
Royal Blues were fourth-placed team following their victory over Borussia Monchengladbach on January 17, at the end of the first match after the winter break.
But something happened in meanwhile. They are now eight, 16 points behind fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen. With four draws and five defeats of their past nine league games.
Eduard Löwen has become the first Russian (has Russian heritage & citizenship) to score a goal since the return of football in Europe with this peach of a free-kick for FC Augsburg to open the scoring away to Schalke ???????? pic.twitter.com/9yOCVaITFI

In the last Sunday's fixture, Fortuna Dusseldorf dropped the 2-0 lead and the victory against hosts Koln which would put them just a point behind Mainz on the table.
But the home side was pushing until the end, and it paid off. Firstly Anthony Modeste scored in 88' while three minutes later, Ecuadorian striker Jhon Cordoba scored an equalizer for a big celebration amongst the home players.
