La Liga: Real Madrid two points from title

The current La Liga leaders need just two points to seal the league trophy after beating Granada 2-1 away from home.

Zinedine Zidane and his men are four points clear of arch-rivals Barcelona with two fixtures remaining before the season ends.

France international Ferland Mendy opened hosts with an amazing finish from a tight angle before his countryman Karim Benzema doubled the lead.

Real had a good result at halftime but they were forced to endure a shaky second half after Darwin Machis scored through goalkeeper's legs.

Los Blancos' fans survived a scare in the dying minutes with Granada being close to the second goal but they couldn't make at the end.

Real now require two points from their next two matches to clinch the so waited trophy, as they have a better head-to-head record over Barca.

The next match against Villareal at home is on Thursday, while the final season's game is a trip on Sunday to relegation-threatened Leganes.

"We have to be happy and rest up for Thursday," said Real manager Zidane after his side's ninth successive victory since La Liga returned in June.

"We will be back training on Tuesday and we will be back on the pitch on Thursday. The final minutes were tough. Granada made us defend a lot in the second half."

In the two other La Liga games on Monday, Alaves managed to hold Getafe at zero and grab so important point in their battle for another season in the top tier.

Real Sociedad climbed up the table and are close to secure the Europa League qualifications next season after a crucial 2-1 win over Villareal last night.
