Huddersfield win sees Leeds United promoted to the Premier League

In one of the closest Championship promotion races in years Leeds United are the first team to secure their spot in next season’s Premier League.

It came as second-placed West Brom conceded a late goal at Huddersfield to gift hosts victory and confirmation of promotion for Leeds.

The unfortunate loss for the Baggies as they were a dominant force throughout the game. The loss leaves the second spot wide open for an in-form Brentford.

Leeds were still likely to get promoted, finally, needing just a point from their final two games. But it didn’t stop mass gatherings around Elland Road and other areas in Leeds to celebrate the success.

Bielsa’s side managed to take a step up on last season, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion last year, finishing third.

Argentinian should be credited having taken Leeds from often falling short of the play-offs to having a shot at winning the league.

It clearly means a lot to the staff and players with them being seen celebrating high up in Elland Road above the thousands of fans surrounding the stadium.

Talented midfielder Kalvin Phillips struggled to describe the feeling of ending Leeds wait to get promoted.

"It's crazy, when the manager first came in I never thought I would be in this position two years down the line. "

"The manager and the coaching staff are a massive part of that. He's the best manager in the world. There's no manager I would rather be under than Marcelo Bielsa right now."

Captain Liam Cooper shared similar feelings and said promotion took Leeds back to "where we've always belonged".

"It's unbelievable and it's still not properly sunk in," he told BBC Radio Leeds."Our club, our fans and our players have sacrificed so much - we've been in the doldrums for 16 years.

"To be part of this team and to lead this team to promotion back to where we know we've always belonged is unbelievable."

"We deserve it - we've been the best team all season on a consistent level and we've got the job done. We set out to get promoted and now we want to go and be champions and lift that trophy."
