Fiorentina start a new chapter with Giuseppe Iachini

After Vincenzo Montella's second stint at Fiorentina has finished unsuccessfully and the manager was sacked, Viola appointed a new tactician - Giuseppe Beppe Iachini.

The club from Florence hasn't disclosed the length of the contract Iachini signed, but reports from Italy state it lasts only until the end of the season.

Even though it was reported that Luciano Spalletti was the first choice of the Viola board, Iachini was selected as he has experience in Italian football and wore the purple jersey as a player. During his playing career, he made 127 appearances for Fiorentina between 1989 and 1994.

Due to the Christmas holidays, Iachini will be presented in front of the media on December 28th. A day later he will conduct his first training session with the squad at the Davide Astori training centre.

Club president Rocco Commisso addressed Viola fans and the public via the official website.

"I would like to thank Vincenzo Montella for the commitment and professionalism he showed during his time at the club. Unfortunately, our current league position forced us to make a change. We chose Iachini because he is a great person and has strong ties with Florence and Fiorentina. Now we all need to work together to get back on track as quickly as possible," said Commisso.

The 55-year-old is vastly experienced, having won four promotions to Serie A with Chievo, Brescia, Sampdoria, and Palermo. He was appointed twice by Brescia and Palermo in the last 10 years, and his most recent managerial stints came at Empoli and Sassuolo respectfully.

In Florence, he will work with a young team that is significantly underperforming as the side has 17 points in the same number of matches.

Italian media are reporting that the staff is also looking into bringing reinforcements in the winter. Sporting director Daniele Prade has already been in England hoping to bring Wolverhampton forward Patrick Cutrone to Fiorentina on a loan. Inter midfielder Matteo Politano is Iachini's primary wish with other players like Torino’s Simone Zaza and SPAL forward Andrea Petagna also linked with the club.
