Finally! De Ligt signs for Juventus

Late last night Juventus posted a video on Twitter, showing a private plane landing on the runway. The Flying Dutchman has arrived, finally.

After weeks of negotiation, but ones with no real tension as Juve was always the only or at least clearly leading club in the race for the signature of Matthijs de Ligt- the transfer is concluded.

The teenage prodigy was bought from Ajax for €75,000,000! The same amount for which his former teammate Frenkie de Jong went to Barcelona. Making the Ajax young duo joint-fifth most expensive signings of the summer. Behind Joao Felix, Antoine Griezmann, Eden Hazard, and Lucas Hernandez.

But that is not all Juve is paying. The player's infamous agent Mino Raiola will receive €10,000,000 for brokering the deal reportedly.

Former Ajax captain himself will earn €7,500,000 per season, plus potential €4,500,000 in bonuses. Making him the second highest-earner at Juve at 19 years of age.

The centre-back is a generational talent, and alongside Felix, Kylian Mbappe, and Kai Havertz is regarded as one of the future superstars that are capable of being equal to Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. Havertz is the only one of these young men yet to make a big move.

Compared to the signing of Felix, who while definitely promising, is still not as proven. At least not compared to the last season Champions League semi-finalists. He is the youngest Ajax player to reach 100 games for the club. Especially impressive since its a club built on giving youth chance. He has already represented the Netherlands 17 times. And is the first defender to win the Golden Boy award.

Juve secured the player for at least three years as he has a release clause of €150,000,000, but one that is valid from June 2022 onwards.

The Old Lady brought in young players in every position of the backline and signed two major signings on a free, but no one was welcomed as De Ligt.

The champions of Italy are really showing their ambitions with recent signings. First Cristiano Ronaldo kicked them out of Champions League a year ago, and next summer - he signed for Juve. This year, De Ligt sent the Old Lady packing, but next year he will be wearing its black and white colours.
