Emre Can reportedly close to Borussia Dortmund

Being a quintessential Juventus reinforcement in 2018 when he arrived for free from Liverpool, Emre Can has truly fallen out of favour with Maurizio Sarri. The German midfielder was famously omitted from the Champions League squad in September and made his disappointment public. Now, it seems his time at Turin is coming to a close.

Can is close to a Bundesliga return as Borussia Dortmund has already negotiated a deal with the player. Now, BVB's CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke and director of football Michael Zorc need to agree on a fee for the German midfielder.

So far, the German side has offered €20,000,000 for the player which Liverpool paid €12,000,000 in 2014. Executives of the Turin club want nothing short of €25,000,000 and BVB, enhanced by a long-term Puma deal, will most likely buckle before February.

Borussia is in dire need of midfield reinforcement for two reasons. Julian Weigl suddenly left Westfalen at the start of the winter transfer window and joined Benfica. So Lucien Favre has a hole that needs filling in midfield.

Secondly, Borussia let a major title opportunity slip last year. This season, with a lukewarm Bayern, they still have a chance of silverware in the 2019/2020 season even though RB Leipzig is seven points clear.

Can has a contract until 2022 and Juve might have no other option than to cash in on a player who feels mishandled at Allianz Stadium. With only eight appearances this season, compared to the 37 he had last campaign, it's easy to understand why he feels that way.

Even though Sarri's man-management is often questionable - with Rob Green speaking out on it - and rumours of a falling out with Cristiano Ronaldo, the tactician is now, at least publicly, trying to improve his relations with the superstar.
