Delle Alli banned for one game over social media post

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has been banned for one match by the FA  over a post on Snapchat about coronavirus before the pandemic escalated.

A box-to-box player put a video on social media in February in which he joked about the outbreak and appeared to mock an Asian man.

The 24-year-old England international has also been fined and ordered to begin an education plan.

He will miss the home match against Manchester United on June 19.

The video posted by Alli showed him wearing a mask in an airport bar before the camera transferred to present a man of Asian appearance and then zoomed in on a jug of antibacterial handwash.

In his interview, Delle Alli said he had realized fast the tape may have the "potential to cause upset" and removed it before getting it too far.

In a comment, Alli said: "In response to the FA decision, I would like to apologize again for any offense caused by my behavior. "

"It was an extremely poorly judged joke about a virus that has now affected us more than we could ever have imagined.

"I'm grateful that the FA has confirmed that my actions were not racist because I despise racism of any kind. We all need to be mindful of the words and actions we use and how they can be perceived by others."

According to the unconfirmed media numbers, more than 216,000 people worldwide died from coronavirus.
