Daniel Sturridge moves to Turkey

Not Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, or Besiktas. Daniel Sturridge has moved to Turkey and has strengthened Trabzonspor as a free player after his contract with Liverpool expired.

The English striker has signed a three-year deal with the Turkish side, the club has revealed. It is reported that the English player will earn €1,500,000 per season.

The move follows Sturridge's six-week ban on playing as he was caught breaching English FA's betting rules for players. The 29-year-old gave his brother information on which games to bet a few years back. The English FA isn't satisfied with the length of the ban Sturridge received, as the sentencing was given by an independent regulatory commission and they believe the ban should be at least six months.

Sturridge had suitors from China and the MLS, but he opted for Turkey. Fenerbahce was also interested in the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker, but he opted for the fourth-placed team in the last year's Turkish Superlig. Trabzonspor will try to enter Europa League as the club is facing a stern opponent in AEK Athens.

The 29-year-old striker was in Liverpool since January of 2013, leaving the club just for one half-season on loan since, to West Bromwich Albion.

Yet, he didn't manage to play 30 league games in one season since 2013. Usually not coming even close to that number. Sturridge gathered 18, 9, 20, 14, and 12 league games for Liverpool in the last five seasons. Scoring just 19 Premier League goals in that period.

His total record for Liverpool isn't abysmal at all, as in 160 matches, Sturridge celebrated goals on 67 occasions. The player represented England 26 times, scoring eight goals.

Sturridge will join up with his former Chelsea teammate John Obi Mikel in Trabzon and is the eight Englishman that went to Turkey, with the most notable names going the same direction being Les and Anton Ferdinand.
