Costa officially leaves Atletico, the reason is a bust-up with Cholo’s assistant?

As it was rumoured, Diego Costa and Atletico Madrid have mutually terminated the striker’s contract. Having scored just 12 league goals in 61 appearances since returning to Atletico in 2017, the club didn’t create much of a hassle for Costa and his representatives in their desires.

Before leaving for Chelsea in 2014, Costa scored 64 goals in 134 games for Atleti. Since returning from the London club, though, I have managed just 19 goals in 81 games.

But why the sudden decision to leave now again?

Spanish journalist Jose Ramon de la Morena claims that Costa had a strenuous relationship with Cholo's new assistant Nelson Vivas, who replaced German Burgos this summer. According to the report, Costa nearly got into a physical altercation with the assistant following Atletico's recent victory over Real Sociedad.

Then, Costa asked the club's sporting director Andrea Berta to go to Brazil as he has a family issue. To which Berta told him to leave but that he can't go to any Champions League or La Liga team without paying the €20,000,000 clause.

Which heated up the rumours that Costa is going to replace Raul Jimenez at Wolves. Yet, considering the health of the Premier League veteran, it's far from a safe bet.

As for Atletico, slowly and steadily going toward their second league title under Diego Simeone, the first choice replacement is Arkadiusz Milik. The Polish striker is out of favour at Napoli since he refused to extend his contract that is bound to expire in the summer. The no. 9 didn't even play for the Italian club this season.

Yet, the club president Aurelio de Laurentiis wants €15,000,000 for the man about to enter his prime. A sum that is wildly unreasonable especially in this market and for such a rusty player.
