Chelsea's €50,000,000 man out for the season, an exile already in blue might fill up for him

A tough hit for Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel will have to plan the entirety of the rest of the season without one of its first-team players. Ben Chilwell will not feature in the 2021/2022 campaign as the left-back will have to undergo surgery on his knee and his rehabilitation will last for longer than five months.

Chilwell suffered anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) damage during Chelsea's 4:0 Champions League win against Juventus on 23 November. CFC initially let the English international try going on with solely rehabilitation work and to see how the injury will heal over the next six weeks. Yet, the Blues have confirmed the injury hasn't seen improvement and that Chilwell will have to go on the surgeon's table.

The €50,000,000 signing under Frank Lampard has played in 12 games this season, starting nine of them, with his record in the league particularly impressive. In only six games, the left-back scored three goals and made one assist. With Chelsea's busy schedule, if not for the injury over a month ago, he would've had a lot more involvement in matches than the sole stats might suggest.

Although Marcos Alonso has played in 21 games this season, he has one goal and two assists in them. Yet, the Blues will be looking to patch up this position as Chilwell won't make a return. While an injury or a red card for the Spaniard would leave the wing-back position completely desolate on the left.

Luckily for CFC and their director Marina Granovskaia, the Premier League club have an exquisite target in Everton's Lucas Digne. Revolting against Rafa Benitez over the overly-defensive tactics, the Frenchman is in exile at Goodison. While the France international is a former Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona player, he certainly has the pedigree to fill up at Stamford Bridge.
