Bayern loan a player from Real, reports state Coutinho isn't in Bavarians' plans

Even before the season started it was believed that Bayern Munich was starting the campaign with a thin squad. Results five months in prove the claim and the manager Hansi Flick has asked the board to give him reinforcement in defence. Alvaro Odriozola of Real Madrid is how the board responded and the right-back arrived at Allianz Arena on a six-month loan.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge explained how the sudden move happened.

"Following internal discussions, we agreed to follow the wishes of head coach Hansi Flick in strengthening the defence and decided to go for Álvaro Odriozola. We are delighted about the signing and thank Real Madrid for the friendly and cooperative talks," said Rummenigge.

For Europe's elite club Bayern Munich has been relying on loans more than any other major side. As Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic are in Bavaria on loans at the moment and for the past two seasons, James Rodriguez defended the colours of German giants on loan from Real.

It was Rodriguez and Toni Kroos who played an important role in "selling" Bayern to the 24-year-old Spaniard.

"I have no doubts about this move. It's a privilege to play for such a big club like FC Bayern and to wear the shirt. My first impression of the team and the club is excellent. I'm very happy, it couldn't have gone better," said the man who played in five games for Real this season.

Bayern's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic reported that the physios found the reinforcement is in great shape physically.

"We are convinced Alvaro Odriozola will help our team with his qualities. I am very happy we’ve found a full-back like him. Alvaro is in top shape, which is very important. That means he can play from the start and add his capabilities," said Salihamidzic.

What echoed through Germany as much as the transfer is the report that Bayern isn't satisfied with Philippe Coutinho and won't buy him at the end of the loan for an agreed fee of €120,000,000.
