Having a season that would match their previous one was an impossible task for Ajax, even its generational talents Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt stayed. But the champions of Netherlands encountered some injury problems in this campaign and will try to mitigate them with a familiar face - Ryan Babel.

The 33-year-old forward has joined the Lancers for the third time, having started his career at Yong Ajax, played for the first team, transferred out and then came back in 2012. Now, Babel is arriving on loan from Galatasaray and the Dutch side will pay €1,500,000 for his services for the six-month period.

Having won his first title with Ajax in the 2003/2004 season, second in the 2012/2013 campaign, Babel is now chasing for a third title in as many decades. Ajax is fittingly presenting the transfer with a "Back to the future" tag.

Babel views this move as a "complete package" as he explained what this opportunity means to him.

"For me personally mainly to be allowed to participate in a well-running team. That also helps me and my form to reach a certain level. At the end of the season there is the European Championship, which is also a goal that I have finished want to be for," said Babel.

Ajax's youth was helped last season by the experience of Danny Blind and Dusan Tadic, and Babel believes he can deliver on that metric as well. Manager Erik Ten Haag further explained what Babel brings to the table.

"He knows Ajax, the Dutch league, the way of playing. Of course, he will also need adjustment time, because it is slightly different in every team. But I think he can master it very quickly, and moreover he has a very strong motivation. After the season he wants to blaze on it EK, so we can help each other. I am incredibly happy," said the manager.
