Atletico trying to snatch Suarez off Juve

Atletico Madrid has yet to make a major new signing this window although they did spend a lot on the already loaned players Alvaro Morata (€56,000,000) and Yannick Ferreira Carrasco (€27,000,000). Backup goalkeeper Ivo Grbic arrived for €7,000,000 from Croatia. Now, Diego Simeone might be getting a proper striker to bolster his ranks.

Last season Atleti scored only 51 goals despite getting major signings! They had 35 goals fewer than Barcelona and were seventh in La Liga in terms of scoring goals. Morata scored 12 league goals in 34 matches while Diego Costa battled injuries and scored only five goals in 23 games. With his poor fitness record, it seems that Simeone has given up on the 31-year-old combative striker.

Atletico are making a late push for the signing of Luis Suarez if they can get him on a free. Which is bound to happen because Barcelona can't finance his salary anymore. Of course, Barca would like it if the Uruguayan moved to a different league but the deal with Juventus is still not done. Even though Suarez passed his Italian exam and will get the citizenship of Italy.

But as Diego Costa got an improvement from his then €10,000,000 salary not too long ago, as he was way behind Antoine Griezmann and that didn't seem fair, his demands are high. On his latest deal, he is earning around €15,000,000 per year and few clubs could pay that.

Fenerbahce is being rumoured as a side that's interested in Diego and he looks like a player who would do best in Turkey where the fans appreciate combativeness more than anything. Fener sold their striker Vedat Muriqi for €20,000,000 so they could offer Costa a strong salary if Atleti let him go without a fee.

But the time is ticking, Luis Suarez turned away Inter Miami despite the MLS club being ready to make him the highest-paid player in the history of the league. Luis isn't done with Europe. Ronald Koeman is still counting on him for these first games in the league, even though he told him he doesn't have him in his long-term plans.
