Aston Villa confirms the signing of Leon Bailey

One of the early candidates for the winners of the transfer window, regardless of what happens with Jack Grealish, Aston Villa secured another massive signing for the club. The Birmingham club announced they've reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen over the sale of 23-year-old Jamaican winger Leon Bailey.

Villa agreed on a €35,150,000 signing with the Bundesliga side and the move is simply subject to a medical pass by Leon when he joins up with the team. Last year, the Leverkusen brass was asking for nearly €47,000,000 from the top Premier League clubs interested in Bailey.

The winger who mostly plays on the right was once considered an elite Bundesliga talent although his body of work didn't quite confirm that. Inconsistency was the name of the game for the man about to turn 24 this month, yet his overall statline is still solid with 39 goals and 26 assists in total of 156 games. Last season alone, in 40 games, Bailey had 26 goal involvements consisting of 15 goals and 11 assists.

This is the second big-money signing of Villa this summer after they beat Arsenal for the signing of Emiliano Buendia from Norwich for €38,400,000 yet the deal can rise up to €44,530,000. While Ashley Young arrived for free from Inter.

Villa made a move for Bailey even though last summer's signing Bertrand Traore didn't do badly in his first season, scoring eight and assisting seven in 38 games.

It is believed that in case Jack Grealish's record-breaking transfer to Manchester City goes through, Villa will go for another Norwich player in Todd Cantwell. The left-midfielder has a far more modest return than Buendia and Grealish, as the left midfielder scored 14 goals and made 12 assists in his 102 games for Norwich.

Reports also claim that Villa had a bid for Southampton's captain James Ward-Prowse rejected.
