Arsenal reach an agreement with Brighton: Purchase of €58,340,000 after just one season in the Premier League!

After weeks of negotiation Arsenal has concluded a deal with Brighton for the transfer of the centre-back Ben White. The Gunners are set to pay €58,340,000 for the 23-year-old who has only one season of top-flight football behind him!

White passed through Southampton's academy before he was picked up by Brighton & Hove Albion in 2014. Since then, he has been on loans in League two with Newport Country, League One with Peterborough United, and Championship with Leeds United.

He only tasted Premier League football in the 2020/2021 season playing for Brighton. Yet he was called up to England's squad for the Euros and is now on the verge of a massive transfer. It's actually reported that Manchester United will buy Raphael Varane from Real Madrid for less money.

It will be the third-highest purchase Arsenal has made in its history following the arrival of Nicolas Pepe for €80,000,000 and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for €63,750,000. So far so, Arsenal's most expensive signing in the backline was Shkodran Mustafi who arrived on the back of Germany's World Cup triumph for €41,000,000. Yet the player of Albanian origin had an abysmal time at the Emirates so the Gunners are hoping history won't repeat itself with White.

Arsenal signed William Saliba for €30,000,000 in the summer of 2019 but the player went on his third consecutive loan without playing a minute for Arsenal. Raising questions of the club's scouting and recruiting even more.

Actually, Arsenal's top six signings ever, Pepe, Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Thomas Partey, Mesut Ozil, and Granit Xhaka all have question marks attached to their names in north London. Pepe's performances have failed quite short of the sum paid for him, Auba had his bad spells, scoring only 10 league goals last season, being aged 32 now he has no resale value too.

While Lacazette never reached the mark of 20 goals for Arsenal in a season across all competitions. Partey failed to repeat his Atletico form, Ozil held the club for ransom for a while, never showing up in big matches. While Xhaka is now at the exit door after cementing himself as the worst captain in club's history and a liability.

White will have a big amount of pressure on his back and so will the club's technical director Edu.
