Another wish comes true for Diego Simeone: Hermoso signs for Atletico

To call it a busy summer would be an understatement. Atletico Madrid earned over €300,000,000 from the sales of five important players, and the two long-standing club icons Diego Godin and Filipe Luis left on free transfers. But 10 players have been brought in. The last in line, perhaps the biggest desire of Diego Simeone - Mario Hermoso.

The Spanish defender who can play at both centre-back and left-back has signed for an initial fee of €25,000,000! The sum that will have to be shared between Espanyol and Real Madrid as even though Hermoso spent the last season at the RCDE Stadium, the team from the capital had 50% of ownership over him. And the same goes for the remaining money Hermoso's transfer to Atleti will bring.

Atleti may have to pay another €4,000,000 depending on different variables, and Espanyol will get 20% of Hermoso's next transfer fee if Atletico decides to sell him.

“I wanted this since the chance to come here arose. It’s a unique opportunity for me to grow and return to my city. I’m delighted and can’t wait to start,” the Spaniard said.

The player has signed a five-year deal with the club worth 4,000,000 per season and considering his release clause was €40,000,000 at Espanyol, this has been a thoroughly good deal for the Simeone's side.

And a deal that might irritate Real Madrid fans, as the Blancos had the opportunity to buy Hermoso back this summer for just €7,500,000, but he wasn't in Zinedine Zidane's plans. Especially as he is Real Madrid's child, starting in the youth ranks of the team, playing for the C and B sides before a loan to Valladolid in 2015/2016 season where he refined his skills in the Segunda.

The defender spent last two seasons in Barcelona, playing in 54 Primera games for Espanyol.

Hermoso is a centre-back that is capable of playing as a left-back, and the 24-year-old already gathered three caps for Spain's first team.

After signing Kieran Trippier yesterday, only James Rodriguez is left on the scope of Atleti's obviously efficient transfer team.
