A major hit to the title race: Atletico without the injured Suarez for at least four games!

Having a double-digit point lead at one point in the season, Atletico Madrid was seen as gliding towards a title. Now, they are only a point ahead of the in-form Barcelona, with Real Madrid only three points behind and picking up steam as well. But it's about to get even harder for Atleti as the club confirmed Luis Suarez has suffered an injury.

The Uruguayan veteran has a muscular injury in his left leg and will be out for three weeks! Meaning that the title contenders will be without their primary striker for four matches! Starting with an away trip to Real Betis, although he was already banned from this duel because of yellow cards.

But he wasn’t for the two following games at home versus Eibar and Huesca, both fighting against relegation. With the final match without Suarez being a derby against Athletic Bilbao, only three days after the Huesca clash.

Suarez has scored 19 league goals for Atleti since arriving from Barcelona in the summer for practically no fee. Which accounts for 37% of the goals Diego Simeone's squad has scored. Suarez also bagged two assists, taking his goal involvement tally to 41% of goals scored by the league leaders.

To make matters even worse, Atleti are also without their winter signing who recently passed out during a training session. The club's third-best goalscorer Joao Felix is also out with an ankle injury. The task of goalscoring will most likely go to Marcos Llorente, who bagged nine goals this season in the league and Angel Correa, who scored four times in La Liga.

Suarez has been instrumental for Atleti in this season, but the club legend Diego Godin believes another player is the best of this campaign - Stefan Savic. It was exactly the Montenegrian who was missing from the 1:0 defeat to Sevilla last weekend.
