A Brazilian doing his medical in Ecuador ahead of a €40,000,000 move to Newcastle

As the winter transfer market is coming to a close, Newcastle are set to do another major piece of business with the second largest signing in their history. An offer of €40,000,000 was sent to Lyon for Bruno Guimaraes and the French side accepted the sum for the 24-year-old. The Brazilian midfielder is out on international duty and will be doing his medical in Ecuador before signing for NUFC!

It seems that the reports of NUFC going for Amadou Haidara in the holding midfielder role were at fault or that an agreement couldn't be reached. Instead, Newcastle went for the Ligue 1 talent who played 71 games for Lyon after his move from Athletico Paranaense.

In the current season, the defensive midfielder played in 25 games, providing six assists from his deep position. Guimaraes has also become a Brazil international and has three caps for the Selecao.

Guimares has been seen as an ideal player to link up the new defence and attack of Eddie Howe's team. NUFC had to beat minor Arsenal interest to land the Brazilian and the offer of a starting spot was too good for him to turn down.

On the front end of the midfield, NUFC hasn't had as much luck. Anthony Martial, an option for the left-flank went to Spain yesterday on a loan. While another Manchester United player Jesse Lingard has become complicated as Man United has been asking for a massive loan fee. Even though Ralf Rangick gave the green light for the move. With Lingard on the last six months of his deal, United tried getting some money out of him, yet have seemingly outpriced themselves.

As for other NUFC incoming transfer, the signing of Mitchal Bakker hasn't come to fruition yet even though it seemed done at a point.
