Peterborough - Northampton

Asian Handicap

Match date: 16/04/2021

A very interesting match will be played tonight at London Road Stadium where Peterborough hosts Northampton. This is a local derby match and we know how important are derby matches in England. You could see this also in Jon Brady’s (Northampton manager) interview when he said that:

"It doesn’t matter in derbies where you are in the table, It’s a one-off game and it’s hugely important for us to show that we’re are giving everything for the cause. We’ll prep the players and make no mistake, they know this is a local derby and they know that, to get a result against them, would be huge for this football club."

Normally under such circumstances I wouldn’t have backed a team to win with handicap, but the situation is not good at Northampton. Northampton this season is not showing good results and currently is fighting to avoid relegation.

That is not all and the main reason why I am backing Peterborough to win and cover the handicap is the fact that for tonight’s clash Northampton will have a long injury list. Striker Alex Jones, just when it looked as if he would get his first start, has joined Jon Brady's growing injury list this week. Seven players - Jones, Benny Ashley-Seal, Mickel Miller, Jack Sowerby, Peter Kioso, Mark Marshall and Steve Arnold - are either out or doubtful for tonight's game.

On the other hand things at Peterborough are far better. Currently at second place they will be aiming to take another significant step towards ending their seven-season exile from England's second tier. Darren Ferguson's side are second in the table and have a five-point cushion in the race for automatic promotion. Boosted by Jonson Clarke-Harris' 27 goals, they are also the second highest scorers in the division with 70, more than double Town's tally of 34. Only Clarke-Harris alone has scored almost as much as all Northampton team.

For this match Peterborough with full team available and coming to this match in great moment after having secured three wins in their last four matches and the draw was also very important because it was against their main rival for second place Sunderland.

With six games to go it is very important for Peterborough to win matches like this and keep the distance from Sunderland. I believe that with current from shown by Peterborough and with their home record which is very good (14 wins from 19 matches) they will secure an important win in this derby game against depleted Northampton side.
