Match date: 14/09/2021

Today begins the group competition in the newly formed European Conference League. In Group E in the 1st round at 4.30 pm CET, play Israeli club Maccaci from Haifa and Dutch Feyenoord from Rotterdam.

Maccabi were convincing in the qualifiers, especially at their stadium where they beat Dinamo Tbilisi (5:1), HB Torshavn (7:2) and Neftchi (4:0), but they are all rivals of a much weaker class than Feyenoord.

Only today's match against the famous Dutch club will show how much is it worth current champion of Israel, led by 41-year-old coach Barak Bakhar. He is a supporter of offensive tactics and will not be afraid to attack against the Dutch either, especially since he doesn't have any major concerns about the line-up.

Big support from the stands is also expected from Maccabi fans, this is the most attractive match for them in the group, which also includes Slavia Prague and Union Berlin.

Feyenoord is a famous Dutch club, but managed to place only in the third most important European competition. He did it also without any problems, although lost last match in the play-offs 1:3 against Elfsborg, but had a 5:0 victory from the first game. In Feyenoord's last five matches of the UEFA Conference League, there have been over 2,5 goals scored.

Coach Arne Slot is more worried about the 1:3 defeat in the Dutch Championship against Utrecht and will ask the players to redeem themselves against Maccabi. Slot has 19 players in Israel, but Reiss Nelson, a striker who was recently hired, isn't yet part of the group. Winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh is also missing.

In contrast is the return of Jo?o Teixeira, Marcos Senesi and Lutsharel Geertruide, who played the first minutes with Feyenoord U-21 on Saturday after a long injury. Luis Sinisterra has just returned from international commitments with Colombia and will immediately join Feyenoord in an important match of this group. Also, Cyriel Dessers makes debut in Feyenoord’s selection of matches. The attacker was recruited on the last day of the transfer window.

- We should not give energy to the stadium and the home fans. If after the draw you see that you have to play against the champions of Israel, with such a big stadium, that says something about the opponent. I expect another fanatical home crowd tomorrow. Feyenoord haven’t won many European away games in recent years and hopefully we’ll change that this season. In the first weeks of the season we showed that we can play well. I am convinced that we can show ourselves in the right light - said the guest coach Arne Slot.

Both clubs showed in the qualifiers that they are forcing an offensive style of play and that is why a game full of rhythm and attack is to be expected. Maccabi have a great desire to beat a big rival, while Feyenoord will not calculate, they will ask for three points, especially after the two defeats in a row they experienced, and the guests come completely rested because they haven't played an official match for 14 days. Maccabi Haifa beat Bnei Sakhnin 2:1 on last Saturday. At least three goals in total seem like a realistic scenario today in Haifa.
