Liverpool - Newcastle

Match date: 24/04/2021

Liverpool and Newcastle are playing today in so-called 'lunch-time' of 1.30 pm CET match of 33rd round of the English Premier League at Anfield Road stadium. Seventh-placed Liverpool are in the hunt for fourth place and the Champions League (now is two points behind Chelsea), while 15-placed Newcastle haven't yet mathematically secured a stay in the league, but with 35 points it's close to that.

Overall for Liverpool this is a disappointing season after winning the title last year after 30 years of waiting, but major injury problems, primarily in defensive line, have ruined Jurgen Klopp’s team plans.

But there is still enough time left to achieve at least that minimum goal of placement in the Champions League and surely the Liverpool players will give everything they can in the last six matches.

Newcastle is their favorite rival because Liverpool haven’t lost at home against Newcastle in 24 league matches in the last 27 years (W20, D4). It's true that Klopp's team had big problems with realization at their stadium lately, and they have picked up just a single victory from their nine recent league matches at Anfield, but every game is a new game.

Liverpool created and missed many chances to score, but that must come to the end once and for all. Klopp is continuing without the injured Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, captain Jordan Henderson and Caoimhin Kelleher. Nat Phillips and Curtis Jones are in doubt while Mohamed Salah should start having been on the bench against Leeds United in the last round.

Today, Salah, Firmino and Mane are expected to be the starting attacking trio again.

Newcastle have scored seven points in the last three rounds and moved eight points away from the relegation zone, which is great news for manager Steve Bruce. They have finally found a way to score goals, they have scored at least two goals in their last three Premiership matches, and that’s always great for confidence.

Newcastle travel to Anfield without, Isaac Hayden, Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schär and Ryan Fraser who are injured. Midfielder Allan Saint-Maximin is in doubt due to an ankle injury, but a very important striker and author of 10 goals Callum Wilson could return to the starting 11 today.

Newcastle's big problem is also defense, which is the fourth worst in the league with 53 goals conceded, and it's enough to remember the last match against West Ham when conceded two goals with a player more on the field. Bruce will probably opt for a slightly more defensive tactic in the 3-4-2-1 formation today, although it's quite clear that without at least one goal scored, the guests have nothing to look at Anfield when it comes to a positive result.

This is a match in which the host will start the waves of attack from the first minute in order to solve the issue of the winner as soon as possible, but with all the weaknesses of his defensive line, there will be an opportunity for a dangerous transition of guests.

The betting options is either a Liverpool win with at least two goals difference or a matche with a lot of goals. Somehow the impression is that this could be as the English say “crazy and frentic game” and that’s why we pick more than three goals in total, because we don’t trust the back lines of both clubs.

Liv go ultra-attacking with front 4 and Thiago+Ginni holding. Sure newcastle will be defensive, happy to lose by 1 maybe for goal difference factor. Spot on pick!
