The last match in 2020. in 1st Croatian football league will be this between Hajduk and Gorica in Split (17.05).
It will be a duel of big disappointment (Hajduk) and a pleasant surprise of the league (Gorica), which is divided by as much as nine points in favor of the guests, who are third, while Hajduk is fifth after 13 games played.

Hajduk expected much more from this season, but defeats against three weakest clubs in the league (Istra, Šibenik, Varaždin) cost them dearly. Real debacle happened in the last round when Hajduk lost against Varaždin 2:4, and president of the club Jakša Jakobušić immediately announced that after this match against Gorica he would drive out of the club maybe 5 or 6 players.

That says enough about how angry and disappointed he is, while coach Boro Primorac decided to remove the desperate first goalkeeper Josip Posavac from first 11, so today his replacement Marin Ljubić will be in starting team. Injured Turkish striker Umut Nayir will also be absent.

For hosts, this match is last chance to save this season and stay in touch for third place, which brings a European appearance. This means that only victory can satisfy Hajduk, and every other result will be a continuation of agony and falling into mediocrity.

Everything opposite to the one in Hajduk, is happening in Gorica. In his third first league season after entering in 1st HNL in the summer of 2018, club from the south suburbs of Zagreb has a great generation of players, who play nice football. In 13 games, they won 26 points and scored 28 goals, and they played the best game of the season in the last round when they beat leading Osijek 4:1.

Since I follow this club professionally and write about Gorica in my newspaper every day, I undoubtedly claim that it was the best Gorica first league game ever. Rhythm, combinatorics, pressing, chances and goals, it was a pleasure to watch.

Confidence of the Gorica players for the match in Split is huge (I also will be at Poljud stadium live, although fans are not allowed because of Covid 19) and absolutely everyone, from coaches, players to members of the club's management, are convinced that such a good play this team can repeat today against Hajduk.
Except for striker Mudrinski, scorer of six goals in this Championship, all players are available to guest coach Valdas Dambrauskas. As against Osijek, Mudrinski will be replaced by Senegalese striker Matar Dieye, who also scored his first league goal in that match.

Hajduk should be especially careful of the two players on the left side, Lovrić and Čabraja, they understand each other with their eyes closed, and the right side of the home defense is a big problem, because striker Jakoliš plays on it and he does very poorly in an unnatural role.

Gorica has not scored a goal in the last three away games in Split, they lost even 0:6 in February, so that will be additional motive for guests to be efficient today and to come to victory with their offensive tactics. Their coach Dambrauskas wrote the message “three goals, three points” on the locker room wall, meaning he always wants to score three goals because then victory should not be missed.

Finally, I expect a game without any calculations, attacks from both sides from first minute because for Hajduk victory is a huge imperative (coach Primorac announced four strikers from the start - Jairo, Caktaš, Gyurcso, Diamantakos), and Gorica has a strong attacking potential. It won't rain, so three or four goals would have to come in a game that the English call a "crazy and frentic game"...

Possible first 11

Hajduk: Ljubić - Jakoliš, Simić, Vušković, Čolina - Jurić, Jradi - Jairo, Caktaš, Gyurcso - Diamantakos

Gorica: Kahlina - Muhammed, Steenvoorden, Jovičić, Čabraja - Babec, Kalik - Špikić, Suk, Lovrić - Dieye."
