Burnley - Fulham

Match date: 17/02/2021

Very important match tonight at Turf Moor for both teams in their battle to secure their place in the league. We can think about this match as a six-pointer, although at the moment Burnley seems to be more relaxed about their chances for survival as they are 8 points clear of last relegation place which is held by Fulham.

Burnley is unbeaten in their last two league games and are looking for successive league wins for the second time this season after winning against Crystal Palace 3-0 on Saturday. Burnley have lost just two of their eight league games.

A victory over Fulham tonight ahead of another home game against bottom-three opposition in West Bromwich Albion on Saturday would therefore put Sean Dyche’s men in a very healthy position in their quest to secure Premier League status.

Fulham on the other hand made a little surprise in my eyes on Sunday when they won against Everton 2-0 at Goodison Parkwhich was their first win ever there. Before this win I thought Fulham had no chance to survive but with a win tonight they could go just 4 points from safety and thus I expect them to give all they have in order to secure a good result here.

Fulham are unbeaten in their last five away games with their last defeat on road coming at Manchester City at the start of December. Four of those games have ended in draws before Fulham ended that run with the 2-0 win at Everton.

Fulham has very important week ahead as after Burnley they will face Sheffield and Crystal Palace next. Those matches will decide a great deal of the season for Fulham.

For this match Burnley will be without captain Ben Mee who suffered an injury last match. Chris Wood and Dale Stephens are doubts, while Erik Pieters and Vydra will face fitness checks. However Taylor is expected to return to the team after missing severn games due to injury.

Fulham will be without striker Mitrovic who is self-isolating following a positive Covid test. Fulham will also miss midfielder Tom Cairney along with defender Kongolo.

To sum up, I expect a tough game here from both teams with primary focus not to lose, but I am giving Fulham here a chance to make another little surprise and win at Turf Moor for the first time since 1951, a stretch that has seen Burnley winning 25 of their last 30 mutual meetings here. I expect Fulham to be fully motivated after Everton’s win and try to achive another important result in their survival battle.
