Ajax continued in UEFA Europa League after finished third in their Champions League group, behind Liverpool and Atalanta. A small joke - most probably Real Madrid were happy about that, they were superior against Atalanta and also beat Liverpool with 3:1 in the first match. And we all remember they were humiliated by Ajax and Dusan Tadic two years ago.

However, Ajax played very good in the knock-out stage. They managed to eliminate Lille in the first and Young Boys in the second round. The last domestic results are also good, Ajax have an 11-point advantage at the top of the table. The atmosphere in the squad is excellent, while the players confidence is high. So, why I expect Roma to stay unbeaten? Well, there are two reasons for my pick.

The first reason is connect with the situation in Ajax. Coach Erik ten Hag has some sort of goalkeeping crisis. First-choice Andre Onana has been banned from football for a year for a doping violation. Onana has vowed to prove his innocence and clear his name, but so far he didn't prove anything. The second-choice keeper Maarten Stekelenburg is doubtful due to a knee injury. That means U-21 goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen could make his European debut. I am sure he is a good keeper, but his inexperience could be a big problem. But there is more - defenders Noussair Mazraoui and experienced Daley Blind are out due to head and knee injury respectively. Finally, Sebastien Haller is ineligible to play in Europa League. The club administration accidentally left him out of the 25-man squad. Haller joined Ajax from West Ham United for ?20.2 million in January transfer window. He has 12 goals to his name in Eredivisie after scoring 7 and assisting 5 in 11 league matches. Coach ten Hag blamed a computer error after Haller was mistakenly left out of the club's Europa League squad. However, his absence is a big handicap for Ajax.

The second reason for my pick is connect with Roma. They are excellent in Europe so far. Roma have just one defeat on the 10 played matches and even that defeat should not be consider as failure. The Italians lost only to CSKA Sofia in the last round in a match without competitive value. Roma are fantastic in the knock-out stage, winning twice against the Portuguese side Braga and Shakhtar Donetsk from Ukraine. Coach Paulo Fonseca makes mistakes in Serie A, but so far he is very good in Europe.

At the end I will mention that Roma also have some missing players - Stephan El Shaarawy, Marash Kumbulla, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Chris Smalling are injured, while Rick Karsdorp is suspended. However, I think Fonseca has adequate replacements.Roma should stay unbeaten here.

Young Scherpen made a huge mistake.
